Afghanistan is green again: from opium to CANNABIS farming

According to recent official reports, Afghan farmers have been widely replacing opium crops with another traditional staple crop for those dry lands... This change followed the clamp-down on opium farming and trade that has been introduced after the country was "liberated" by international forces led by the U.S. army.

A report by the Unodc, ganja crops have gone up by 40% in 2007 , from 123,550 acres in 2006 to the current 173 thousand.

Well, my first reaction was: I am going to Afghanistan... This thought was accompanied by dreams of huge scented fields of marihuana and speculations on the following processing phase, for which the Afghan have a longstanding reputation: hash-making. After years of decline and uncertainty, when the quality of smuggled goodies was declining, we are now set for some better times.

My second thought was a sort of cold shower, though, as I came to realise that I would not last long and whole in such a country, where women are still suffering oppression and have not gained much freedom of speech yet.

So my final conclusion is that, at any rate, if I ended up in Afghanistan I would certainly be STONED TO DEATH.
